Long time no see! The grand ambitions of the summer have given way to August and the time to buy a new calendar, as the College Football season is right around the corner and the NFL pre-season officially kicked off last night with the Hall of Fame game, which featured a very ACC Thursday night QB battle.
I wanted to start a YouTube channel this summer and write at least one prospect profile a week to go along with a video. Based on the lack of any posts here, I have to say I rather failed at that, and am sorry to anyone who looks forward to my work, and to myself for not holding up the bar.
Life has been strange since the draft, and I think I can say pretty confidently, I nearly burned myself out. By the end of the process, I was releasing up to five profiles a day and working my usual 9-5 job of being Duncan Top Sales Rep™. I dedicated almost all my free time to creating the most comprehensive draft guide possible, but I don't think I realized how much it affected me. 16 to 20 hour days took their toll, and combined with my Grandmother's failing health and eventual death meant that when I thought I was ready to get back to this in early June as I had planned, I was nowhere near ready.
I published the video the day I left Atlanta to go home for her funeral. By the time I got home, I was spent. I think I am still coming out of that, and we are about to enter the busiest time of the year for me personally, and professionally. There ain't no rest for the wicked and I know many are dealing with more, but for me everything has made it tough to get stuff out. That being said I want to commit to a few things that you can expect of me.
1.) That turning of the calendar I mentioned earlier means the website needs a small redesign. The posts from the 2026 class need to be distinguished from the 2027 class, so I will bifurcate them. Some stuff on the site may look odd while we go under construction before Week 0 kicks off.
2.) I will write more off-piste pieces. I love soccer, rugby, hockey, basketball and many other things, so expect me to write more content about other sports or completely different topics throughout this site.
3.) I will write something before the season starts with a collection of thoughts about the year ahead.
4.) Over the past few weeks I have had this post by Jarrett Seidler in my head about something I did not realize bothered me so much.
There is so much content around the NFL draft, and the most common content is lists. Look all over forums, r/NFLDraft, and the internet at large, and we are awash with lists and mock drafts with no context. In an age where we have to think less than ever, I find no value in providing anything without context. I promise you that anything I ever produce will be from my mind and my opinions. I will never publish a list that is not accompanied by a detailed reasoning for it. Ironic in an article with a list in it I know.
Catalina Bush (who, if you are into soccer or data or just thinking about problems in new ways, subscribe to her work immediately) talked about the value of free thought in her Post Match Report this week.
Originality is so severely lacking in the modern world that to even think for oneself seems to be an act of defiance of the accepted ways. I will always be authentically me here no matter what.
5.) I will enter some football and non-football data competitions and keep you updated on things I uncover along the way.
